Eurofins Webinar: PFAS Basics – An Introduction to the Chemistry, Sources, Regulation and Analysis
February 4 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
About This Webinar:
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a family of synthetic compounds containing thousands of chemicals formed from carbon (C) chains with fluorine (F) atoms attached. PFAS are used in a wide variety of industrial and commercial products. PFAS are persistent in the environment and are resistant to typical environmental degradation processes. As a result, they are widely distributed and are found in soil, sediments, groundwater, air and tissue across the United States. According to the US EPA, certain PFAS can bioaccumulate in the human body, and there is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse health outcomes.
This presentation will briefly cover the basic introductory topics of nomenclature, chemistry, sources, exposure, regulations, analysis and future concerns related to PFAS presence in the environment.
