The Board of Directors of Professional Geologists of Indiana welcome and encourage your attendance for the 2023 continuing education virtual meeting. The virtual meeting will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 18, from 1:00 to 4:00. We have the following speakers and topics lined up to provide additional information you can likely use in your professional activities on a regular basis.
The agenda and speakers are:
1:00 Brief opening from PGI President Bill Karban or as designated.
1:15-2:15 Bob Barr, FEH, Fluvial Erosion Hazards in Indiana
2:15-3:00 Sean Gorman, Ethics, State Personnel and professional
3:00-3:30 Dave Nance, DNR GIS Map Applications, the basics for public use
3:30-4:00 PGI, continuing education status update
All start times are approximate. There will not be a break or pause except for the question-and-answer periods following each presentation.
Robert C. (Bob) Barr is a Research Scientist for the Center of Earth and Environmental Science, Department of Earth Science, IUPUI. For the past several years Bob has been a lead researcher and frequent presenter on the topic of Fluvial Erosion Hazards (FEH) in Indiana.
Sean Gorman is the State Ethics Director, in the Inspector General’s Office. He will be presenting information regarding the Ethics Code for State Employees. Much of this will apply directly or indirectly to all professionals, especially those that interact with State Employees.
David P. (Dave) Nance, LPG 751, is currently a member of the PGI Board of Director’s. Dave is a long time staff member of Department of Natural Resources. Dave’s presentation will provide links and basic instructional information allowing the user to explore these publicly available DNR GIS tools. These tools are constantly under development, improving in both content and utility. The presentation will use example for a few of the sites that Geologist are most likely to use professionally. Other tools are available using the location reference provided. Best of all, no prior GIS experience or software is needed.
Kevin Strunk, and others, will be presenting on the status of the Continuing Education rules for Licensed Professional Geologist in Indiana.
