Senior Project Manager

Position: Our environmental practice serves a diverse clientele with a variety of services, and our staff is expected to be versatile and assume a variety of roles and responsibilities.

The following is a list of some of your responsibilities as Senior Project Manager/Client Manager for Indiana: Providing technical review and technical leadership for the environmental group, but primarily Indiana environmental projects; Keeping up to date with state regulations; Attending/presenting at state-oriented professional organizations; Managing the environmental components of brownfield redevelopment projects; Identifying, securing, and managing brownfield grants, loans and other incentives, especially for projects and clients you will manage; Serving as a lead client manager; Maintaining project budgets and schedules; Directing project teams effectively; Preparing successful proposals, negotiating professional service fees and contracts; Identifying and securing clients and business/project opportunities; Effectively identifying, securing, and interfacing with clients; Understanding project economics, contracting, and liability management; Identifying and participating in professional and business organizations and other networking activities that will foster relationships with clients and potential clients.

You will have the following professional responsibilities: Participating effectively as an integral part of the environmental team to continually improve our capabilities, services, procedures and operations; Providing professional development and mentoring to further develop our team member’s capabilities; Maximizing project profitability through effective contract, project and liability management, including managing and adhering to project budgets and schedules; Assessing and responding to client needs and conducting yourself in a manner to build strong client relationships and a viable professional practice.

Once you have become acclimated to SME, we anticipate your efforts and time will generally be allocated as follows: 60%-70% Project/client management 20-30% Business development 10% Corporate/group strategy, mentoring, administration.

Staff Scientist/Geologist

Company/Organization: Heartland Environmental Associates, Inc.

Location: South Bend, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana

Position: Heartland is looking to hire a full-time environmental consultant to our South Bend, IN office who is eager to learn and willing to participate in a fast-paced team of environmental professionals. Two plus years’ experience in the consulting industry is preferred. Work and responsibilities would entail a combination of data collection, sample collection oversight, report writing, data review, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Collect a variety of field data and document site conditions and activities;
  • Provide oversight and direction to subcontractors for drilling and excavation projects;
  • Assist in the drafting/completion of project level work (data management, technical report preparation) on environmental investigation/remediation projects for municipal/commercial/industrial clients;
  • Conduct soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and indoor air sampling;
  • Oversee advancement of soil borings, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, and installation of soil gas points; prepare soil boring logs;
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze field and technical data;
  • Use of a company vehicle to travel to jobsites and some overnight travel (< 20% of the time); and
  • Complete and follow company and client required health & safety training.

Key Qualifications and Credentials

  • Ability to effectively communicate project status to project manager/staff;
  • Strong technical writing skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record;
  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques; and
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology/hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science or related field; and
  • 0-5 years of environmental consulting industry experience (2+ preferred).

Engineering  Geologist – DNR

Staff/Project Scientist

(MUNDELL), a small, dynamic, Indianapolis-based earth and environmental consulting firm is seeking an outstanding candidate to fill the positions of STAFF/PROJECT SCIENTIST/ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER. Three to five years of progressive geological, geophysical or environmental engineering consulting experience are required. The ideal candidate should have a B.S. degree (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in a scientific or engineering earth science-related discipline with graduate course work in hydrogeology, geophysics, or environmental engineering from an accredited university. Registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG) or Professional Engineer (PE) or the capacity to become registered is desirable. Typical projects involve Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, soil/sediment/groundwater sampling, chemical source area mapping, plume delineation, subsurface geological and hydrogeological characterization studies, groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, corrective action and remedial design for soil and groundwater cleanup, and human health risk assessments.

Desirable skills include excellent familiarity with field data collection and mapping methods, analytical and numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, geophysical instrumentation trouble-shooting and survey completion, quantitative and statistical analysis, data visualization, and good oral and written communication. The candidate must demonstrate a proven ability to work independently, organize and manage multiple tasks and project assignments, and interact well with a multidisciplinary team.
