“Corals on Acid – Ocean Acidification the other CO2 Problem”
Rising atmospheric CO2 equilibrates with surface ocean water, lowering the pH and severely impacting reef-building corals. However, the fate of coral reef ecosystems in response to ocean acidification remains largely unexplored. In this talk we will look at naturally low-saturation low-pH groundwater submarine springs at Puerto Morelos, Mexico, to provide insights into potential long term responses of coral ecosystems to low saturation conditions.
